Wow, I bet you can't wait!! My hubby worked at TAFB for 30 years then had 2 total knee replacements, they couldn't find a place where he could stay off his feet. So he had to medically? retire when he was something like 55, I think... Boy, did we ever learn quick how to get along with half of what he made. Right now, for extra money, (mostly for fishing, hunting or some necessities) he drives a bus for the school....works pretty good, he's off all summer. :)

Congrats Bog! Try not to drive your wife nuts hanging around the house all day though. One of my cousins was ready to KILL her husband after he retired from working for the town of Oyster Bay until he found another part time job to get him out of the house for a few hours each day.

I'm starting to look in to things to do after I retire. I've thought about starting a small business and working part-time. 19 months to go.

I may stay home and let her work outside the home. It's her turn. ;-)

happy for ya, BOG. Find something you love to do and figure out a way to make it pay for itself (and maybe even pay you too) - Merry Christmas!

Lucky sot.... If Jon and I are lucky, and we play our cards right, we'll have 10-15 years (as opposed to 25-30) and we can call it quits, and just do some BS job... or take the time to do stuff that we actually enjoy. He wants to go into watch making, and possibly transfer over the engraving skills to something like firearms. There's a school right in PA where we'll be going back to in a couple years. Can't wait!! In all seriousness, though, you've probably earned every second of your retirement, and am happy for you. State jobs sometimes aren't always what they're cracked up to be, and everyone thinks that you're on easy street if you have one...

There's a great deal of turnover where I work. Most workers last 3 years.I'm an anomaly.
